How WeShareBooks Works
Three short videos — what the platform is, how members share and borrow, and how community admins run a library.
What is WeShareBooks?
WeShareBooks is a free community book-sharing platform that helps neighbors lend and borrow idle books locally, with clear rules and a credit system to keep sharing fair.
- Join or create a community and browse books shared by members nearby
- Books stay owned by the sharer; custody moves as books are borrowed and returned
- A simple credit score rewards good sharing and limits abuse (e.g. borrowing freeze at −3)
- Built for non-profit community use — not a bookstore or rental marketplace
- Email notifications keep lenders and borrowers aligned through each handover
Member journey
From sign-up to your first borrow: verify your email, join a community, list a book, and complete the full borrow-and-return flow.
- Register, accept Terms & Privacy, and verify your email before logging in
- Join a community (open or admin-approved) and agree to Community Guidelines
- List a book with ISBN scan or manual entry; it appears in the community library when available
- Request a borrow, coordinate delivery, confirm receipt, read for up to 14 days, then return
- Track activity under My borrows — borrowed, deliveries you manage, and books in your custody
Admin journey
Community admins create the library, set join rules, approve members, and handle exceptions so sharing stays safe and organized.
- Create a community, set description, join policy, and banner notice; accept Community Guidelines
- Approve or reject join requests; browse members and roles in Manage community
- Oversee borrow handovers, loss reports, and custody transfers when physical books need to move between members
- Update community settings and announcements shown on the library home page
- Admins can help clear backlogs; admin borrowing limits differ from standard members by design
