About WeShareBooks
Books are meant to be read, shared, and kept moving.
WeShareBooks helps people share physical books within their local communities — making it easier for books to find new readers instead of sitting unused on a shelf.
We believe a single book can connect many people.
Our Story
Many of us have books sitting on our shelves that we've already finished reading. At the same time, someone nearby may be looking for exactly that book.
WeShareBooks was created around a simple idea: what if those books could keep moving?
Instead of every reader buying their own copy, community members can share books they already have. A book can move from one reader to another, staying useful for longer and creating connections along the way.
We built WeShareBooks to make that kind of local sharing simple, organized, and community-driven.
Our Mission
-
Give books a longer life
Help books reach more readers instead of being left unused after someone finishes reading them.
-
Strengthen local communities
Create opportunities for neighbors, families, students, and readers to connect through something simple: sharing a book.
-
Encourage sharing over waste
Make better use of books that already exist by helping communities share resources locally.
A different way to share books
-
The book keeps moving
A shared book doesn't have to return to the original owner after every reader. It can continue from one community member to the next.
-
Ownership stays clear
The person who originally shares a book remains its Owner, while the person currently holding it becomes its Keeper.
-
Community-powered
Members arrange borrowing and local handoffs directly with one another. Community Admins help manage membership and step in when exceptions need attention.
How a book travels
- Emma · Owner
- David · Keeper
- Sarah · Keeper
- Next reader…
The owner stays connected to the book. The keeper changes as the book moves through the community.

Our Principles
Built around simple principles
Local
Books are shared within communities where members can arrange practical local handoffs.
Community-led
Communities have their own Admins who manage membership and community matters.
Transparent
Ownership and current custody are recorded so members know who owns a book and who currently keeps it.
Respectful
Members are expected to communicate clearly, care for shared books, and follow their community's guidelines.
Who we are
Built in British Columbia by people who believe technology can make local sharing simpler and more accessible. We're starting with books — one of the easiest things a community can share.
Our commitment
WeShareBooks is designed as a community service, not a marketplace.
We do not sell shared books or take ownership of books listed by members. Books remain owned by the people who share them.
We are committed to building the platform responsibly, protecting member information, and being transparent about how the service operates.
